As a
freelance journalist in Miami’s South Beach, Marc
Fest spent two hours every day combing through the
Web sites of the same 20 U.S. newspapers for story
ideas that might interest publications in his
native Germany. Eager to spend less time surfing
the Web and more time reporting, he wrote the code
that became Quickbrowse. The site allows news
addicts to quickly create a customized newspaper
that compiles articles from major news
organizations across the
country. In Newsstand,
visitors choose one or more sections from the news
sources that interest them. They can, for example,
create a newspaper with world news from The New
York Times, business news from The Dallas
Morning News, entertainment news from the
Los Angeles Times and sports news from
USA TODAY. Other pages can be created for
comics, tech news, stocks or news about favorite
sports teams. In one place, a die-hard Washington
Redskins fan could immerse himself in stats and
stories from The Washington Post, The Sporting
News, NFL.com, CBS SportsLine.com and
ESPN.com. Those who
don’t want to visit the site every day can choose
to receive a daily e-mail containing stories from
chosen news sources. Customized pages aren’t
limited to the selections offered by the site.
MyQuickbrowse allows users to save a list of their
own favorite sites.
