Rich Clickings 21 November

Hello!

Do you still use the same electricity and gas company as you did before privatisation? Many people do because it's too much hassle trying to work out whether it will be cheaper to switch. Buy.co.uk offers assistance in the form of a calculator that can work out which company provides the best deal based on how much gas or electricity you use and how you want to pay for it.

PowerGen is the latest company to try to persuade you to switch to its service and it's using the Net to do it. The company has set up a service provider that gives you a penny off your bill for every 10 minutes you spend on-line - this is in addition to £30 cashback if you sign up on-line, and to any savings you might make on your bill anyway.

Have a great week. See you next weekend,

QuickBrowse - http://www.quickbrowse.com/start.html
Do you find yourself visiting the same few sites on a regular basis? You might be able to save time and money by downloading them in one fell swoop using the QuickBrowse service, and then reading them when you've logged off from your ISP. You tell QuickBrowse which sites you want to read and it fetches them for you and formats them in a single page that you can read at your leisure. It can be fiddly to set up, but is worth it in the long run.

What's on When - http://www.whatsonwhen.com/ Travel
Net users looking for somewhere unusual to go on holiday should head over to What's on When without further ado. The site has a huge diary of unusual events around the world, from the Singapore Duck Race to The Biggest Liar in the World competition in the Lake District. What's on When doesn't sell holidays itself, but does link you to sites such as Expedia that sell packages deals and flights.

Clickmusic - http://clickmusic.co.uk/ Entertainment
Looking for music on-line? You could do a lot worse than start at Clickmusic, a site that's aiming to become the definitive music directory for UK Net users. Even though it features the chart run-down, newsflashes and reviews, its main purpose in life is a directory that links you to MP3 sites, gig guides, gossip sites and band pages.

Bell Labs text-to-speech synthesiser - http://www.bell-labs.com/project/tts/voices.html
This site has been on the Internet for a good few years, but the Clickers recently rediscovered it and thought you'd like to join in the fun. You type in a phrase that you want turned into speech, choose a voice (big man, raspy and so on) and hit the button. A few seconds later the site reads out what you typed in, in whichever comedy voice you chose. We're not sure what purpose it serves, but it's certainly a lot of fun.
